VILLAGE VANGUARD
178 7th Avenue
Village - New York, NY
One of the great cornerstone jazz clubs in New York City, the Village Vanguard opened in the Village in 1935. Max Gordon purchased what was formerly a speakeasy called the Golden Triangle. He re-named it The Village Vanguard and featured poetry readings, folk music and eventaully jazz. The club has hosted a list of the greatest jazz players and singers to ever appear on stage, including Miles Davis, Thelonious Monk, Stan Getz, Charlie Mingus, Harry Belafonte, Sonny Rollins, Dinah Washington and many more too numerous to mention.
